Support Group - Long Term Leave and Extended Disability

The information contained in this notice is developed by our Group but is mailed by the Calgary Board of Education, Employee Health Resource Centre. The Board protects your privacy and confidentiality. The option is yours to make contact with our Group.
Here is a very brief outline of some of our functions and activities:
- Provide a forum for speakers from the CBE, ATA and ASEBP
- Provide an opportunity for questions and discussions on matters of individual concerns
- Lend moral support
- Advocate on your behalf when feasible
- Provide current and updated information, as it becomes available
- Provide a checklist for your guidance and use
- Provide several opportunities for socializing, i.e. lunches, dinners, etc
- In addition a member of our Local ATA office is always in attendance

Are you aware?
- The Calgary Board of Education will mail out regularly a communication prepared by Calgary Public ATA-LTD/EDB Support Group.
- Teachers in receipt of disability benefits are not required to contribute to the Teachers' Pension Plan in order to accrue pensionable service. However, disabled teachers must contact the Alberta Teachers' Retirement Fund at 1-800-661-9582 to ensure this occurs.
- Teachers on LTD/EDB leave are required to maintain an ATA membership at $96.00 per year (contact 1-800-232-7208).
- You may receive a form from the Alberta School Employee Benefit Plan asking you to indicate whether you wish to continue your benefits while on extended disability. Since the Board pays 100% of the cost, you should indicate yes. If you have questions please contact the Employee Information Centre (EIC) Benefits Unit at 1-877-353-2555.
