Lines of Communication

By Richard Sherry, Communications Committee Chair

Congratulations to the winners of prizes drawn from those who did a survey on our current and new website: Jennifer Kenyeres (ATA portfolio), Terry Potter (ATA travel alarm clock), Mike Retallack, Deborah Sughrue, and Monti Tanner (ATA tote bags). And thank you to all who particpated in our survey.

The results cannot be considered scientific, but they do tell me some interesting things about your attitudes towards the use of websites in Local 38's communications. Here is a summary:

  • The divisions represented were Elementary (49%), Junior High (23%), and Senior High (29%).
  • Viewing the Local #38 website occurred from both home and school (66%), only school (11%), and only home (14%).
  • The number of times in the last month that teachers viewed the website was zero (18%), 1 to 5 (73%), and 6 to 10 (9%).
  • The areas of the website which were helpful for teachers were ATA Glance (60%), Quick Links (46%), and Contact Information (26%).
  • Regarding ATA Glance, 20% read it regularly, 60% infrequently, and 20% never.
  • Of those who had read it, 77% said they enjoyed the articles. 14% said they had written an article in the past, and 26% said they’d consider it.
  • Local Lines was read by 79% of respondents, and 89% of those who had read it, liked it. Local Lines was found useful because of links to: ATA Glance (46%), news (43%), notices (34%), and general awareness of the ATA (34%).
  • Turning to the new website, the titles of the sections were considered meaningful for 83% to 97% of respondents, except “Related Info” which 51% found meaningless.
  • Awareness of the TNET portal was yes at 24%, vaguely at 24%, and no at 52%.
  • Willingness to provide personal information for the profile database was high (80%) for school related and lower (35%) for home related.
  • The desire to access resources online ranged between 50% and 63%.
