Christine Sorenson // Forest Lawn High School

Christine has worked at Forest Lawn High School for over 14 years. An experienced Social Studies teacher, she currently makes significant impact on the lives of students taking K&E classes and as a Learning Support Teacher. Besides teaching exceptional needs learners to become more confident readers and writers, she operates the Youth Champions club and supports the QSA. As the steward of the Environment Club, she led her students to complete initiatives that resulted in solar panels to power various spaces in the school. She feeds the students of FLHS in body by providing food daily to hungry students. She feeds souls daily by attending to emotional, social, and academic needs of any students who come to her classroom.

Krista Glenn // Emily Follensbee School

Krista has been working with children with multiple disabilities for the majority of her teaching career.  Currently her role sees her working with preschool and kindergarten aged students.  Working with children with multiple disabilities is challenging work and Krista has always exceled due to her dedication, strong work ethic, and leadership skills.  Her commitment to her work and professional learning is to be commended.  I know Krista's dedication and commitment is unwavering and she always goes the extra mile to support her students.  The support that she gives her students and families ensures that their first years at school are a roaring success and sets them up to be successful moving forward.

Allissa Varga // Joane Cardinal-Schubert High School

As a teacher I have had the opportunity to work with several great teachers, but have not found any to be as amazing as Allisss Varga. The students respond to her with respect and admiration.  She takes the time to get to know her students, to see their strengths, and even takes the time to go to as many of their extra curricular activities as she can.  She is a dedicated employee who works hard, but always has time for a smile and a laugh.  Allissa's positive attitude and enthusiasm remains throughout our time together, and she continues to be a valued friend.  When our curriculum changed (last week of school), Allissa chaired a CTS meeting, so that all of the Cosmetology teachers could come together, along with our CTS Specialist, and get a game plan in place before the end of the school year. She is always willing to share her ideas, and is always up to include all the Cosmo teachers in the CBE. We are all very grateful for having Allissa on our team.

Andrea Penonzek // Northern Lights School

Andrea and I both have HUB Online teaching assignments based out of Northern Lights School. Andrea has been a helpful colleague to work with, always ready to share her best ideas for engaging activities with other teachers. She is teaching grade 2 this year and is always looking for new ways to create connections with her students using online tools. Her students and our school are lucky to have her care and enthusiasm for teaching!

Caroline Cook // Jack James High School

Caroline Cook (Carrie) is a caring, supportive colleague and teacher. She works with students on their level with compassion and understanding of their individual learning needs. She has done extensive work with Trauma Informed Practise, Indigenous Education, and the CALM curriculum. Her knowledge, skills, and attributes make her a leader and expert in her school. She shares resources with her colleagues, and is a committed member of her school team.

Gurmit Bhachu // Bridlewood School

Gurmit is a Grade 1 HUB teacher, and that in itself is pretty remarkable! The patience required for such a young age! I am just blown away at his online classroom and his lessons - so much engagement!

Jonathan Dardon // Senator Patrick Burns School

Jonathan uses intuitive technology in his classrooms to build community and increase the sense of pride of his students as they feel they are gaining and practicing relevant skills needed for the workforce.

Chinook Park Teaching Staff // Chinook Park School

The leadership team at Chinook Park School would like to nominate our teaching staff as they have worked tirelessly to prepare for school re-entry.  Some tough decisions had to be made, and we are so proud of our staff because through it all (surviving school re-organization, loss of prep time due to no substitutes and brainstorming solutions to complex dilemmas) they kept students at the heart of the work.  Our staff demonstrated incredible flexibility and took initiative to a whole new level to ensure our building is safe and has quality programming in place.

Timothy Ulph // Citadel Park School

Timothy is my teaching partner and he's amazing.  He is kind and compassionate with our students, and supports them in such a thoughtful way.  He is also up for anything - all the crazy ideas I throw at him - he's game!  We compliment each other well - my weaknesses are his strengths.  He is the most amazing partner I could ask for!

Kaleeja Peters // Huntington Hills School

Ms. Peters is the newest member to our team and is very versatile, coming into one position and ending up with another. She is extremely positive and compassionate, which the students certainly appreciate. She is hard working, encouraging and empathetic. She is respected and loved by both students and staff.

Delaine Slade // Arbour Lake School

Delaine is a hardworking teacher, with a passion for students with learning disabilities. As the Learning and Literacy teacher, Delaine does an amazing job of working one on one with students who require extra support. Delaine is well liked by students and teachers and is someone that I look up to as a teacher.
