Tannis Weiss // John G Diefenbaker

Tannis has become the math learning leader in very difficult times.  We had a tragic death in our department last year in November, staff layoffs in December and of course Covid.  She has been our strength and voice of care and reason for the last year.  She is the kind of person who listens well, builds her staff up by allowing us to use our strengths, always has our backs and genuinely cares about education and students.  She is an excellent leader, role model and friend.  There is no one more deserving than TANNIS!

Jody Wasend // Huntington Hills

Mr. Wasend is the tech genius at our school! He guides students with assistive technology and provides engaging assignments for them to complete using technology. Students loved using Mindcraft to create social studies projects and Pixton to create language arts graphic novel stories. He is a passionate and caring teacher with a huge heart for helping students achieve their best.

Kristy Riegel // Simon Fraser

Mrs. Riegel is a kind, empathetic, generous teacher. She works hard to understand each students' motivation in order to create a positive and successful learning environment for them. She is positive, caring and encouraging to everyone she interacts with. Before she selflessly volunteered to take on a new position mid September this year, she completely set up the classroom for the new teacher arriving so they would feel at home, welcome and ready to begin :)

Sarah Roston // Langevin School

Though still young, Sarah Roston is a powerhouse teacher. She knows everything about her grade 9 students and uses her humour, grace, and dedication to build strong relationships with students. She's also a science whiz who inspires discipline and curiosity for students to uncover the mysteries of the world! Sarah is an energetic, skilled, and diligent teacher who always goes the extra mile. She is also hilarious, although usually not on purpose!

Jennifer McCann // Varsity Acres

Jennifer is an exceptional French language teacher who's expertise in literacy and numeracy need to recognized and celebrated.   She willingly shares this expertise with colleagues both "in house" and across the division and I have learned so much from her even after changing schools.  Because of Jennifer's influence, I have been able to create learning tasks that support the growth and development of my students in rich and meaningful ways.   In math, the low floor, high ceiling tasks she designs really help students engage in math in creative ways with multiple entry points.  I believe she is very deserving of this nomination.

Daryl Martin // Sir Wilfred Laurier

This principal values his staff! He helps us feel worthy and empowered during the craziest of years. Daryl is a fabulous role model, takes the humanity of teaching and learning seriously, and cares for the physical and emotional well-being of everyone in our building. We need more principals like Daryl in our world.

Jennifer Barge // Bridlewood School

Jennifer is a passionate advocate for environmental causes and writes stories to share that passion. She has worked with grade 4 and 5 students for the last 10 years promoting global environmental stewardship and a love for storytelling.
