Welcome to the pre-holidays issue of ATA Glance Online. Thanks for visiting the website and reading these articles. If you are a return visitor, hopefully you're making this a habit.

Local #38 now publishes the newsletter completely on the website. We mailed a summary of ATA Glance to your school's CSR representatives, and we suggested they distribute it to teaching staff by whatever means they deemed best for your school.

We hope you enjoy the stories and columns listed to the left. And be sure to let us know what you think! And maybe you'd like to contribute.

We'd love you to write a Letter to the Editor commenting on an article. Or maybe you'd like to write an article yourself! Please tell other teachers about happenings in your school, educational issues you care about, and points of view on the state of the profession these days. Email the ATA Glance Editor, Shannon Montgomery, at ataglance@ata38.ab.ca with ideas you might have.

There's an amazing amount of interesting activities and personalities in our Local #38 membership. Let's hear all about them!

For this issue, here are the articles for you to enjoy.

Local #38 President Larry Liffiton has the latest on the pension unfunded liability. In his President's Message he connects peace, love and understanding for Calgary Public teachers. The provincial government wants labour peace in return for dealing with something teachers would love to see dealt with: the pension unfunded liability. What's it going to take to come to an understanding?

Executive Assistant Dick Hehr comments that, while we work very hard, teachers do have it better than many people in our city, and offers a way we can help those who need it.

Warm Feet For The Street is the Mustard Seed program that kids at Glamorgan Elementary supported. Carly Leggett and Aneeta Gosal are student teachers who write about how kids and teachers collected items for those who need them.

Your Association's activities never cease. On Monday, November 28, fifty-four members of various standing committees of Local #38 met to discuss how to put into action nine preferred futures developed over the past three months by the Executive Committee and the Council of School Representatives.

Another recent example is Council of School Representatives approving two Annual Representative Assembly electoral ballots at its monthly meeting held on December 7. The first of these ballots gave rise to a vigorous debate that resulted in a close vote. The second ballot was approved unanimously.

High School Representative Steve Yanover talks about diploma exams, salary raises and the holidays in his report.

Communications Committee Chair Richard Sherry talks about how your Association is only as good as the participation of its members.
