What to do if a new district initiative is creating increased workload...
Ministerial Order 33/2013 makes it quite clear that school boards must use their "best efforts" to reduce unnecessary tasks. The addition of additional district initiatives during the term of the legislated Framework Agreement would be inappropriate:
Guided by the outcomes of scheduled reviews of teachers' workload, including the School Board's internal review of teachers' workload, every School Board must use best efforts to reduce unnecessary tasks which are initiated by the School Board and required to be done by teachers. (Ministerial Order Section 2)
Teachers who believe a task has been implemented district-wide should immediately contact Local 38 to provide additional information and details to staff. Local 38 will promptly gather whatever additional information is required and raise the issue with the Chief Superintendent. Should no action be taken, it is possible to launch a grievance via the Exceptions Committee.
