Scholarships

 

Calgary Public Teachers, ATA Local 38 maintains four annual scholarship programs.  

Scholarships open annually from February 1 and close May 31.

Local 38 Heritage Scholarship Award (Formally the Local 38 Scholarship)

The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to students to further their education at an accredited post-secondary institution. 

The scholarship is to recognize:

a) students of outstanding academic achievement, or 

b) students entering a vocational post-secondary program for adults with developmental disabilities, 

whose parent / stepparent / guardian is a current, retired or deceased member of Calgary Public Teachers, ATA Local 38. 

The Scholarship Committee shall consider special needs and circumstances as part of its selection process. 

 

Please read the applicant guidelines and selection criteria carefully for eligibility. 

The number of scholarships awarded is dependent upon how many applications are received. 

Deadline for receipt of applications is May 31 of the application year.

Deadline for receipt of high school transcripts (Traditional applicants) is August 31 of the application year.

Deadline for receipt of Certificate of High School Achievement or Completion (Vocational applicants) is October 1 of the application year.

Deadline for the Post-Secondary Enrolment Certificate is September 15 of the application year or January 30 if winter enrolment. 

 

2SLGBTQQIA+ Scholarship

The purpose of this award is to provide financial assistance to a Two-Spirit, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual, and additional sexual orientations CBE student or ally to further their education at an accredited postsecondary institution. Please note, we do not publish or share the names of applicants to protect their privacy, 

One scholarship is awarded each year.

Deadline for receipt of applications is May 31 of the application year.

Deadline for the Post-Secondary Enrolment Certificate is September 15 of the application year or January 30 if winter enrolment. 


The John Laurie Scholarship

The John Laurie Scholarship recognizes an indigenous student with outstanding merit in the Calgary Board of Education each year.   

One scholarship is awarded each year.

Deadline for receipt of applications is May 31 of the application year.

Deadline for the Post-Secondary Enrolment Certificate is September 15 of the application year or January 30 if winter enrolment. 

 

Black Canadian Scholarship

The Black Canadian Scholarship Award recognizes a student who is actively engaged within the black community, who demonstrates outstanding merit and leadership within the CBE.

One scholarship is awarded each year.

Deadline for receipt of applications is May 31 of the application year.

Deadline for the Post-Secondary Enrolment Certificate is September 15 of the application year or January 30 if winter enrolment.
