Lines of Communication

By Richard Sherry

Richard SherryThe theme this month for ATA Glance is "Rebuilding."  Of course we were prompted by the response to the tsunami by the children in schools around the system.  The articles here, and others online (www.ata38.ab.ca), demonstrate what kids can do when they want to help.  Thanks to Pam Reed, our editor-in-chief, and all the contributors for the articles in this issue, and those online too. Maybe you have an idea for an article?  Photos of activities (we'll help with FOIP issues) are welcome too!

Another rebuilding going on is with our approach to enabling communication between you and your Local Association. There's always a lot going on: from finishing off our collective agreement, to the heavy-lifting of many committees, to activities happening at our schools.  Our goal is to get even better at informing you and encouraging you to participate.

To that end, we will be enhancing the Local's website to increase its scope and improving the timelines of updates.  It will soon be connected to the Provincial ATA's T-net, an amazing technological development now underway in Barnett House.  Keep an eye out for announcements soon.  Please email me (rdsherry@shaw.ca) with your suggestions regarding what we need to add to our website.

Finally, we continue the rebuilding of the Communications Committee by inviting you to participate. We need two members at large to round out our enthusiastic group.  We meet monthly and there's always more that can be done beyond that.  Maybe this is the right time for you to get involved?
