When disaster hits, Rosemont families rally!!

By Kathy Pinder (Resource Teacher)

On Tuesday, January 25, most of the boys and girls at Rosemont gathered in the gym to support the survivors of the Tsunami disaster. A representative from the Canadian Thai Society (Calgary) spoke of one family’s loss and her homeland in distress and thanked us for our efforts. For the next hour, the children sat spellbound laughing, munching on their lunch and listening to a reader’s theatre rendition of Alexandra and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day ,  Who’s on ‘First,  The Paper Bag Princess and finally The Cremation of Sam McGee. Students, in groups, prepared the readers’ theatre presentations their own.  All did a splendid job!!!

This was followed up with a surprise grade 5/6 make up demonstration.  Several students paraded around the gym with their new ‘look’ Rosemont families raised $501.65 to support the orphans in Puhket. Imagine, having fun and helping the world!
