Mayor's Awards for Excellence

By Larry Liffiton, Local 38 President

The annual Mayor's Excellence Awards Luncheon was held on January 24, 2006 at the Fairmont Palliser Hotel to recognize and celebrate the efforts of business and education working together to improve the quality of public education in our community. The Mayor's Excellence Awards are symbols of achievement that are presented to partnerships that stand as benchmarks, by continuing to positively impact the education of our children.

The luncheon allows partnerships to examine the best practices of others and generates greater interest.

Business-education partners prepare applications for awards in the following categories: Curriculum Support, School-To-Work Transition Programs, Small Business Programs, Advancement of Aboriginal Youth, Literacy Support and Enhancement, Multi-sector Partnerships, Health and Well-being, Special Needs and Special Settings.

This event was sponsored by the Fairmont Palliser Hotel, the City of Calgary, CFCN and the Calgary Herald.
