Welcome to the March 2006 ATA Glance

It's nearly time for Spring Break. We can only hope that spring appears soon.

We hope you enjoy the stories and columns listed to the left. And be sure to let us know what you think! And maybe you'd like to contribute.

We'd love you to write a Letter to the Editor commenting on an article. Or maybe you'd like to write an article yourself! Please tell other teachers about happenings in your school, educational issues you care about, and points of view on the state of the profession these days. Email the ATA Glance Editor, Shannon Montgomery, at ataglance@ata38.ab.ca with ideas you might have.

There's an amazing amount of interesting activities and personalities in our Local #38 membership. Let's hear all about them!

For this issue, here are the articles for you to enjoy.

Paul Allard tells us about the great partnership he manages between Bowness High School and Stepper Homes. The program recently earned an Excellence Award from the Mayor of Calgary.

Aldona Valadka of Riverbend Elementary tells how she and her colleague competed in the First Lego League Provincial Competition in Edmonton. And their kids won!

You may recall a recent appeal by Provincial ATA to complete the sentence: I am Proud to be a teacher because... Well, Claire MacDonald wrote a poem for the occasion!

Socrates popularized it, but inquiry is a thoroughly modern means of teaching kids. The article What Is Inquiry? is a primer for those curious about this method.

Communications Committee Chair Richard Sherry talks about the survey many of you completed at the Local 38 booth during Convention, regarding the use of a website as a means of Local 38 communications.
