  • Members are directed to return to work beginning today.

  • Members are encouraged to wear red tomorrow as an expression of solidarity.

  • Bill 2 prohibits strike action - work-to-rule is considered a form of strike action. As such, the Association cannot authorize or support a work-to-rule. Members are instructed to return to their classrooms, abide by the conditions of their employment, meet their professional obligations and maintain any formal commitments they have made. We do however realize that teachers, who are demoralized and exhausted, need to look to their own well being and take care of themselves—for their own good and that of their students and their loved ones. Teachers will need to assess and decide individually whether or not they have the capacity to take on any NEW initiatives, projects or assignments beyond their current core work and responsibilities or previously agreed-to commitments. Teachers’ professional decisions will be respected and supported by their colleagues and their Association.

  • Bargaining status: The Alberta Government introduced Bill 2, the Back to School Act on Monday, October 27th. The implications for teachers are as follows:

    • The Association will pursue all legal alternatives to challenge Bill 2.

    • The Association is instructing teachers to abide by the conditions of their employment and return to their classrooms effective tomorrow (Wednesday, October 29).

    • Legislation now prevents strike action of any kind. We therefore *cannot* engage in work to rule. Teachers will be expected to meet their regular professional obligations and maintain any formal commitments they have made. We do, however, encourage teachers to carefully consider whether they have the capacity to undertake any new initiatives/projects/assignments beyond their current core work/responsibilities/commitments.

    • There will be a MEMBER INFORMATION MEETING held today at 3:00pm. Plan to attend this meeting. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, but given the number of possible members in attendance, not all questions will be able to be addressed.

    • A new collective agreement has been imposed on us. Local Executive Staff will provide information at the November 5 Council of School Representatives meeting on what these changes mean.

Ongoing Reminders...

  • Share a message of solidarity: The past three weeks have been incredibly difficult for teachers, leaving many feeling isolated and disconnected. Please take a moment to record/share a video expressing your solidarity and support for your teacher colleagues - a compilation (or several compilations) of these messages will be sent out to help bring people back together.

  • We want your photos! We're putting out a call for submissions from teachers - if you have any photos from your time during job action that you'd like to share with others, please upload them! Maybe you got together with colleagues, attended a rally, spent time with family, or did an awesome activity that helped pass the time? Please share! (You can also just email your photo to Strike2025@submit.memento.com as a file attachment – your email subject line will be the photo caption!)
