Our Work

In addition to advocating for the professional needs of teachers and representing the profession within various stakeholder groups, your Professional Development Committee facilitates a variety of programs.

  1. Supporting Teachers New to the Profession: We facilitate a mentorship program for beginning teacher and seasoned teacher participants to collaborate throughout the school year. Our Local also holds an induction ceremony and financially supports teachers who wish to attend the Beginning Teachers’ Conference in Edmonton.
  2. Leadership: We are continuing our work in teacher leadership including a two day program "Teacher Growth, Supervision & Evaluation" and "Tend the Garden - Starting & Sustaining Change in Schools".
  3. Programs to Improve Teacher Practice to Enhance Student Learning: We have developed activities focusing on inquiry, brain-based learning, assessment of and for learning, teacher professional growth planning and implementation, character and citizenship education, and differentiated instruction.
