Local 38 Launches New Personal Development Fund

Each member eligible for up to $100 in funding

On 2025 February 1, Local 38 launched a new program for members - the Personal Development Fund.

"The fund is intended to provide our teachers with access to support that can be used in a multitude of ways to enhance their interests, hobbies, or recreational activities. The main objective is to have a positive impact on our members' mental health," said Stephani Clements, President of Calgary Public Teachers (Alberta Teachers' Association Local 38).

Several expense categories are available for members to submit claims for under the new fund: activities, courses, tickets, workshops, passes, licenses, subscriptions, or other similar expenses that have a demonstrable connection to the teacher's personal wellness, personal development, hobbies, or recreational activities are eligible.

Activities related to professional development should still be assessed through the Local's Staff Development Fund, as the Personal Development Fund is intended for claims that support the teacher's personal life rather than their professional life.

Members interested in making claims to the Personal Development Fund should review the Fund Guidelines and submit an application through Local 38's new online application service.
